Marcy's Message

I can’t help myself I have to talk about what I think of Obama’s performance so far. I will start by saying I did not vote for Obama. I am socially on the liberal side of things but fiscally I am conservative. I just think we need to be careful with money and that people thrive when they are responsible for themselves without handouts. Finding that fine line where help is really help is always a challenge whether you are thinking about a country or a family. Too much “help” turns children into spoiled brats; too little help can make a child feel abandoned and alone. So I don’t know that I have the perfect measurement for when is help too much but I certainly have one bottom line. If you (the person or the country) can’t afford to pay for it, it’s too much. Back to Obama.

I love how he communicates with us, the people. He talks, he twitters, he texts, he blogs, he is on FaceBook, he is out there letting us know what’s up. Our country needs that communication and he is doing a great job of it. So I give him an A for communication.

Iran’s botched election. The first thing I have to say about that is what would anyone expect? Of course the election was fixed; isn’t it always in a corrupt country? The significance is the people and they definitely made a statement. And it appears that change is in the wind. However, I think Obama did a good job with staying out of it. We have many times tries to push and control the natural order of change and we haven’t been very successful with it. So, it is my opinion, our place is to stay out of it. We need to philosophically and with our American spirit support the opposition of Mahmud Ahmadinejad because he is a lunatic but we cannot afford to meddle. So I like what Obama did there; another A.

North Korea. Well here I think we need to analyze what is really going on over there and if North Korea is just trying act like they matter we should ignore them. Not give them any attention or value; simply ignore them. If they have nukes and the capability to harm us we should stomp them. Very simple. What we should not do is make statements we aren’t willing to back up. It is like telling a child to be quiet and then when they aren’t tell them again and again and pretty soon it doesn’t matter what is said the child is noisy and obnoxious because they can be. If we care about North Korea we do something; if we don’t we ignore the antics. So I only give Obama a C on that one.

The part I am terribly disappointed with but not surprised by is the debt. Obama is a liberal politician and liberal politicians spend money. With jobs in the toilet and tax revenue down there is no way to spend like a liberal without debt. I am OK with spending on programs that benefit the good of the country but I don’t think massive debt is the right way to do it.   So I give him a D for overspending and I am afraid the spending isn’t over yet.

Overall that gives him a 3.25 which isn’t bad. And I didn’t even talk about him following through with the Bush plan to pull troops out of the Iraq cities by June 30 (good) and moving a huge number of troops to Afghanistan to get a handle that disaster. Also good. If he could just stop spending money faster than he is printing it we might have a great President for the next few years.
